The Best Type of Residential Laminate Countertops

If you’re looking at laminate countertops for your new countertop installation, odds are you aren’t daunted by the plethora of options. With a variety of textures, designs, shapes, and sizes, many choose to use their local Northeast Ohio countertop installation experts to help them sort through the options. That said, the best types usually break down to a “big three” of leading producers. Through years of quality and effort, these three have proven themselves strong choices for your new residential countertop installation.

  1. Pionite High Pressure Laminate
Created by Panolam Surfacing Systems, this type of laminate is one of the leading choices for the last decade due to two things; its large catalog of options and reinforced specialties. Though most laminate providers have a large catalog, Pionite vastly outpaces it’s following competitor, nearly doubling the available lines. Secondly,  Pionite helps solve for one of laminates biggest perception issues; cheap and fragile. Pionite specially engineered a fiberglass-laminate composite to fight against everyday wear and tear. 2. Formica
If you’ve put effort into looking at laminate countertops, you’re almost certain to have heard the name Formica enough times to know the brand. Formica is a chain known for its reliability and consistency, as opposed to Pionite being known for its cutting edge ingenuity. With only 36 available options, some find the line limited in terms of finding a clean look to mesh with the area around the countertop. However, beyond Formica’s long history of withstanding any damage thrown at it, Formica also has been focusing more on the visibility of their product. This led to the creation of IdealEdge, a system to add smooth edges to the countertop to avoid the brown, sheet wood appearance that is indicative of most vinyls. Contact your local Northeast Ohio residential countertop installation expert for more details.
  3. Wilson High Definition
Wilson High Definition Laminate finds itself somewhere in between Formica and Pionite on multiple fronts. Wilson HD doesn’t offer nearly the same amount of designs or lines that Pionite does, while being very close in line size to Formica. Though matching in number of lines, Wilson HD is well known for being much more replicable of wood, stone, or earth grains than Formica. Wilson doesn’t offer the one year warranty that is offered by Formica, but claims to withstand up to 5x the wear and tear of a Pionite countertop. Most uniquely of all, Wilson allows you to create an entirely custom countertop via your own imagery.
